On this matter of writing about time

We’re finally at time time, but before I get to that, you need to learn the underlying philosophy in news writing style that applies here. I’ve already talked about the need to make sense quickly to our readership, and to do it in a consistent style so readers get comfortable with your style.
But a corollary is to save space in print. If you can develop a style that is not only consistent but also concise, then you save space. Efficient, huh? If you save space, you can put more information in the newspaper. Keep that in mind. If you are confronted with a style quiz question, take the option that consumes less space while also presenting information clearly. You improve your chances of being right. You also reduce the number of times the city editor yells over to you, “Hey, Newshound, would you try to crack open that style book now and then? I’d appreciate it.”
